Jason “Skippy” Rush was a Battalion Chief with Canyon Lake Fire/EMS in Canyon Lake, TX where he served honorably for more than 20 years. Although Skippy had volunteered for other Fire Departments in our area since he was 16 years old, he embarked on his CLFD/EMS career in October 2001, where he officially began with the starting rank of Firefighter/Paramedic. He proudly served our community and was a member of the South Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC) Rescue Team (Texas TASK Force One), and was a recipient of numerous awards and decorations throughout his career. He truly loved his fire family.

When Skippy wasn’t on duty, he was golfing with anyone that wanted to play, watching the Seahawks, or hanging out with his beloved friends and family. As his eulogy read, he adored his family. Skippy and I were married on September 12, 2015; the date was decided by a dart game in our garage. He threw the first dart for the month and I threw the second for the day. That was a great night and we both agreed to get married at 5:34 pm since ‘534’ was his badge number. We bought our home shortly after that and proceeded to two-step through life together with our three boys. We were a blended family and he always treated our boys as his very own.

Skippy had a contagious smile and his laughter would make you smile on your darkest of days. To him, there was nothing that giving your all couldn’t fix. He strived for perfection but settled for excellence in his own life, our family, and at work. He worked hard so that we could play hard.

Skippy took his own life in the early morning hours of January 01, 2022, at our home and has been terribly missed every day since.
